The Watermill, Kisbacon

Built in 1834, this traditional wooden watermill is located in the pictureque village of Kisbacon. The Communist regime assumed ownership of the watermill at the end of the 1940's and incorporated it into a collective farm, against the wishes of the Keresztes family who owned it. After the Revolution in 1989, the original owners bought it back with money raised by family and friends. This rare example of a fully-functioning watermill remains at the heart of Kisbacon's local farming economy.

At the moment, the mill is only able to produce a low-grade of flour. In order to achieve a finer flour (suitable for baking purposes), farmers have to travel 10km to the town of Baroalt. KCT is involved raising funds in order to purchase a new grinder for the watermill, that will work alongside the current one. Additionally, materials are required to reinforce the watermill's dam, which is badly eroded.
