The Kalnoky Conservation Trust (KCT) has been created to help conserve Szekerland's natural and built heritage.

Székely Land (Székelyföld) is used today in a cultural-ethnographical sense to refer to the territories inhabited by the Székelys ('sék-ei' in pronunciation), a Hungarian-speaking ethnic group. The Szekely's were at one time considered to be the finest warriors of medieval Transylvania, defending the border against numerous invasions from the east. The Szekley live in the forested valleys and hills of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, Transylvania, corresponding to the present day Harghita, Covasna and parts of Mureş counties in Romania.
